Lazy Days of Summer

Well, I'm over that nasty summer cold and feeling back to normal.  But oh, how I detest the heat and humidity of a Florida summer!  Already, I'm longing for some of that cool, crisp, autumn air when one can toss on jeans and a sweatshirt and be comfortable.  Even after twenty-one years, I still say it's worth it to moan and groan sweat my way through the summer months in order to have the glorious winter weather Florida enjoys.

Despite all the sweating out there, I'm enjoying my garden so much.  I can't ever recall getting such delight in taking my morning cup of coffee and walking outside to the patio to see what might have transpired overnight.  I'm beginning to understand that there truly is a gardening bug.  No....not the one that might invade your plants and flowers, but one that works its way inside you....causing excitement when a new bud or bloom is found.  I think for the first time in my life I've been bitten by it.  I've always admired other gardeners and secretly wished I had the same desire to create in that fashion.  For some reason, once my fish pond was completed this past spring all of a sudden this gardening stuff didn't seem like a "chore" to me.....instead, I now regard it as a labor of love.  To think when we moved here three years ago this area below was simply overgrown with weeds and god-knows-what.  Ray toiled out there for months with the bricks and managed to build a wonderful patio area.  His next project was my fish pond and all of it resulted in this........

I've always enjoyed browsing at yard sales, flea markets, etc. but lately it's like I have extra radar directing me someplace where I might find something funky or appropriate for my garden.  I think that's what I'm coming to love so much about it......I think like our homes and our other individual tastes, our gardens have a way of defining US.  Some gardens are very meticulous, with landscaping befitting a manicured English garden.  Others have a more au naturel look to it and still others might be something inbetween.  I think mine leans more to the au naturel.  And look at this great watering can I found on the 4th of July.....we were coming back from the City Park events and I spied a yard sale.  As soon as I got off the golf cart, I saw this can and I swear it had my name on it.  It looks just perfect next to my fish pond.

And will ya look at my crape myrtle!  Each day the blooms get fuller and more vivid.

Okay.....so I don't like the heat and humidity of a Florida summer.  But once again, my glass is half full because I'm finding a part of summer this year that makes it a bit easier to stop whining for autumn.

How's your summer going?  See you here next time.........

Oh, I am moaning and groaning about the heat here in Morocco (38-41°C)!! Your post has me longing to be back in Paris and tending to my flower boxes on the balcony and the windows. There is a sort of serenity in tending to the flowers - I love it!!

Your garden looks so beautiful and inviting.

Happy Summer!

Lovely sanctuary!

Where did you find the water can? Was it at the yard sale on Gulf? She is such a neat person! Just met her 7/5 and immediately felt like we knew each other for awhile.

Thats interesting, I also feel a pull to place little things in my yard at CK but not so much in PO. Must be the next step from nesting when you are pregnant to when you are ready to retire or retired! Guess there are more steps in between!

I was all excited to see a couple little blooms on a potted plant in my yard that I had ignored. Can’t wait until I can pay attention to my barren desert one day and turn it into a gorgeous retreat. Ok it will probably still be a sandy area with a rock garden but it will be my little haven!

Hunting down whimsical thing for our garden is one of my favorite things to do! We found an old wrought iron gate and made it into a fountain.
Your Crape Mrytle are gorgeous! ours still have not bloomed! Oh well, the hibiscus are making up for it.

Thankfully, this year has seen a lot of rain here in Michigan. I've hardly had to water my rock garden at all. The petunias always do well and are especially bold and beautiful this season. My marigolds are struggling a bit at the moment however.

Your patio area is gorgeous, looks like a wonderful place for morning coffee or to sit in the evening and watch the moon come up... assuming you don't have mosquitoes anyway

This is a beautiful space, everything warm-colored and natural. I love the weathered fence in the background.

You are so right about the "bug" and you can't shake it either once it gets you. I miss my gardens almost as much as I miss the pets!!! Your things are looking just beautiful.

I just "hung a left" in to Pike's to see if I could find Bath Pinks for some scent. Well, I did, but they are done flowering for the season. However, a bit of cash later I have three new pots of other plants. Told the gal I was going to place them on my balcony with the existing ferns and call it a "garden". So....I understand the need. For years I've been reading and collecting gardening books. Time for the rubber to hit the road.

Humidity! Yuck!! But my how the plants love it. Oregon wasn't even as humid as Florida when I visited it last month, but it was almost sticky with humid air. But oh my lord, you should have seen the flowers everywhere. With the AC I might get used to it for flowers like that. But my hair? Nah. Forget it. Maybe I'll stay here in the desert after all.

I am one of those who would toil the soil and get any plants (with names or without) into it. I just enjoy doing gardening, watching they grow with me, flower for me, brighten my garden up and cheer me up.

Just love to see your corner, its so comfy looking for an afternoon tea...I could send you a pot of Earl Grey, if you like?

Your writes are so welcoming and relaxing. I enjoy reading them. I guess ever since I started blogging (not so long ago)...I read less books but more blogs. Some are pretty scary, depressing and upsetting but most are soothing.

You are welcome to jog along into my blog and posts comments.

Cheers.
