The Girl with no Shadow

This was the other book I picked up from Circle Books at my writers conference last month. The author also wrote Chocolat and this is the sequel.
Although I did see the movie, Chocolat (who could resist Johnny Depp?) I haven't read the book. I have mixed feelings on this one.
It could just be me (and if anyone out there has read this, I'd appreciate your comment/view) but I found this book to be a bit confusing. Actually, in the beginning, I found it to be a lot confusing.
The main character, Vianne Rocher (well, she was Vianne Rocher in Chocolat) has relocated to Montmartre with her two daughters to open another chocolaterie. But she has a new identity now and goes by the name of Yanne Charbonneau. Okay......simple enough.
However, the story is actually told from three point of views and that was difficult to follow. One chapter is told by Yanne/Vianne, another by her older daughter, Anouk (now going by the name of Annie) and by the character of Zozie.....somebody who turns their lives upside down with her charm and ruthlessness.
While I love witches and mysticism and all that stuff, I guess I didn't remember it so well from the movie, Chocolat. But Yanne/Vianne and her older daughter have magical powers. And this was done quite well in the book. However, each time I'd begin a new chapter it took a few paragraphs to figure out "who" was speaking and who's chapter/point of view it was.
Like I said, perhaps it was just me.......but if I'd been the author, I would have actually put "Yanne" or "Zozie" on the new chapter page. I refuse to spoon-feed my readers, but gee.......I do like to keep them oriented.
Overall, (once I got used to the writing style) I enjoyed the book. If you like magic (think of the novel Practical Magic) mysticism, and a cute story...........then I think you'll enjoy this novel as well.
See you here next time...........

Anyway, I trust your opinion on this....!
FYI: I just read Martin Clark's new book "THE LEGAL LIMIT:....(He is Deana's husband....) I LOVED it! It is a GREAT read, Terri...I think you would enjoy it very much!
The clue to who was narrating was in the drawing that was pictured at the top of each chapter. There were three little drawings (one for the mother, one for the daughter and one for Zozie) so that if you followed that you could easily tell who was doing the narrative.
Anyway...I loved it.
First, thank you so much for your kind comment on my blog. I appreciate your visit and hope you'll come again...you're always welcome.
I've enjoyed my visit here too.
Hugs!
