Rebuttal from my Rep ~ Thought Crime Bill
I had another topic planned for today, but thought this was much more important to share with you.
About 4:15 yesterday afternoon I got a phone call from my Rep Ginny Brown-Waite's legislative assistant. She said, "we've been tracking some of your blogs." I won't lie....my first thought was, "Great! Did that Thought Crime Bill pass and they're calling to tell me to cease and desist? My blogging days were over? My freedom of free speech robbed?" No.....that wasn't the reason for the phone call. She said her name was Amy and she wanted to explain why my Rep wasn't familiar with the Bill I was referring to in my email.
So she explained, "the number of the Bill wasn't in the Subject, so she wasn't sure which bill you meant." Okay. And then she went on to say, "And she responded back to you after you sent a second email, explaining the Bill again, giving you her thoughts on this. We don't know why you haven't received it yet." Hmmm, neither do I. Because I've had no problem getting all my other emails. She went on to say, "Ginny Brown-Waite is adamant about responding to all of her constituents. We can resend that email." To which I replied, "Yes, that would be nice. Please do so."
I'm typing this at 6:00 Monday evening. I've checked my emails. Nothing. What can I say. If and when said email arrives......you can be sure I'll share it here with you.
Another Update: About 6:00 last evening, I did receive an email reply from Sen. Nelson of Florida, which I'll share below.
Please do not reply to this e-mail. If you need to send another message to Senator Nelson, please use the form on his Web site: http://billnelson.senate.gov/contact/index.cfm#email
Dear Mrs. DuLong:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 (S. 1959). I understand your concerns and appreciate your taking the time to be involved and informed about matters important to Florida and our nation.
Introduced by Senator Collins, this legislation is pending before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Please know that I will keep your views in mind if this issue is considered before the full Senate. If you have any other concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me in the future.
P.S. From time to time, I compile electronic news briefs highlighting key issues and hot topics of particular importance to Floridians. If you'd like to receive these e-briefs, visit my Web site and sign up for them at http://billnelson.senate.gov/news/ebriefs.cfm
And yes....it's ANOTHER form letter. Verbatim. Because my friend in Florida that also contacted Nelson? He got the same, identical email. Ahhhh.....gotta love these politicians!
